While I’ve completed several 5K’s over the last five years, I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever done them well or with proper training.
With the new year and a new city, I decided it was a good time to start with the basics and build from there.
It also helps that a few of my 101 in 1001 goals involve running. And have I mentioned that my husband has run a marathon*? Well that helps too, sort of. 🙂
Today marks my fourth day of training using a free app I downloaded called C25K. If you’re not familiar with C25K {Couch to 5K}, it’s a training program that takes you from the couch {where I’m currently sitting} to running a 5K {what I hope to be doing soon}. The app coaches when to walk and when to run and each week increases your duration/distance.
My goal for this training is to complete all the training {three times a week for 8 weeks} and to be able to run a 5K in/under 30 minutes. Ahhhh, that scares me even typing that. {stop laughing all you better than me, runners 😉 }
Any tips on training?
*That’s 26.2 miles, people. I married a stud.
Good luck! I’m sure you will have no problem once you get going 😉 I’m training for my very first full marathon and am terrified! My mind is crazy against me doing it, so I’m working on her 😉
Would you believe that my husband ran that above mentioned marathon without “training” for it!? I still can’t comprehend that! But like you mentioned, getting your mind in mode is half {or maybe more} the work! Keep me posted on how training and race goes! I’ve always said that I want to do a marathon but yet the most I’ve ever run is a little over 6 miles though:) Hoping that this program will help me get into the groove for more!
I’ve heard lots of good things about the C25K program and currently I can’t even motivate myself to get to the gym.. maybe this will help?! I MUST check it out!
Allison, Getting out the door is ALWAYS the hardest part of the workout for me {so far anyways, lol}. Try it and let me know how you like it!
