60. go to a Braves game

Last Tuesday, Gary and I made our way back to Turner Field for the first time together since our first date!

Oh and it was also the Braves home opener! 🙂

Since the game wasn’t until later that night, we decided to make the most of our trip and spend the day in Atlanta.

We made our first stops of the morning at Chick-fil-a and Starbucks and then a few short hours later, we met up with Mike and had lunch at The Fickle Pickle in Roswell.  The Brie BLT and fried pickles I had were delish! We missed you, Andrea!

Next we headed to pick up some things from Ikea!Braves Home Opener 2014 | Atwell Adventures.002

When we finished there, we still had a couple of hours until game time, but were still pretty full from lunch. What to do, what to do… I guess we’re never too full for ice cream!  {I promise we ate more than just cones…}

The home opener was also the 40th anniversary of Hank Aaron’s 715th home run, so they honored him by having 715 signs on the field and also dedicated uniforms to him from all the sports teams in Atlanta.  It was sweet watching him and the highlights from that game.

Sadly, the Braves did not win this game.  We’ve been told we are banned from attending games because apparently we’re bad luck, but I have a feeling, we’ll be back again!  We even talked about making opening day a tradition – and you all probably know how I feel about traditions

And before we left the great city of Atlanta, we made one more stop… back to The Varsity.  Can you really go to a Braves game without that? The answer – if you grew up as a Queen – is no, you cannot, even if you have to run six miles the next day {maybe not my best decision ever}.

51. run 6 miles

At the end of February when I finished the Couch to 5k training that I began in January, I thought I’d use the momentum I had going to begin the Couch to 10k training.  My goals were to be complete all the training {3 scheduled workouts a week} and cross off one of my 101 in 1001 list, run 6 miles. Last week I completed both {and actually did the 6 miles 3 times}!

During the six week training, I walked/ran 86.89 miles, and also did an additional 27 miles of walking to hopefully meet my one of my April goals/101 in 1001 goals of walking 3 miles a day!  That’s 113.89 miles total!  This is the most consistently I’ve ever kept up with running {3 months, 8 days, and counting}.

For the final run of the training, Gary and I headed to the Augusta Canal Trail and did the trail 3 miles out and 3 miles back.

This was our first time running on this trail so it was a good way to end the training – especially since the course was flat and shaded in alot of areas.  The views, sunshine, and other runners also helped a little!

Augusta canal | Atwell Adventures 3I’m going to try to keep up with my 3 miles a day schedule and maybe do some longer runs on the weekend, but for now, I’m excited to rest a little!  And let’s not forget, I still have 10 miles and 13 miles that I want to accomplish on my 101 in 1001. {YIKES! What was I thinking?!}

ps – let’s give a big round of applause for G who did 6 miles twice last week without training.  #WhatAStud

High Five for Friday

high five for friday

Hey, hey!

I’m so happy to have things that make me smile throughout the week {a big one of those being G for his patience and encouragement while I’m figuring out my new schedule}!  Here are a few more things that made me smile this week!

1. It’s crazy to think this might be the last picture of us four before Baby C arrives! High five for getting to see Alex and Barbara Jane last week at a wedding!

2. It’s been nine months since our wedding!  Part of me feels like its been longer, but part of me feels like it was just yesterday!  High five for nine happy months which has included two moves, two new jobs, lots of learning and laughing!

4. It’s been a busy week but I’m hoping to get a run in this afternoon, and tomorrow morning – which will complete my Couch to 10k training! Oh and high five for running six miles straight on Wednesday!

5. Yesterday was Sibling Day. Although I’m not quite sure who comes up with these holidays, I’m sure glad someone put this one on the calendar! I couldn’t be more blessed than two call these six people brothers and sisters.  High five to the best siblings in the whole world!  Oh and another high five to the oldest five for giving me great sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws!
