31 days – fall 2013 – dinner for two

One of my favorite things to do with my big family back in Macon is share a meal with them. Sometimes Sunday lunch, others a birthday celebration, but whatever the occasion, I love, love, love sitting around the table and laughing with them.

Thanks to some good advice in our pre-marriage counseling, G and I have continued that idea with weeknight dinners in our home.  Dinner is the best time for us to catch each other up on our days and fill our stomachs all at the same time {and you can’t really go wrong with talking and eating, now can you?}.

So whether you’re a newlywed, parents of five, or living with your three best friends, share a meal around the table with the one{s} you love.

31 days – fall 2013 – making our place “home”, pt. 2

When we got married in July we knew the chances of us staying in this apartment past January were slim.  But even though we would only be here for five or six months, I wanted to make this place feel like ours. I wanted to try and use what we had {even if that meant alot of paint} before we invested in other things. I wanted this apartment to be somewhere that we loved, not just lived.

Since I’ve moved in, all our boxes have been unpacked, we’ve G has put nails in the walls, hung and rehung pictures {some are still correct orientation pictures in them, please excuse me while I twitch}, and painted 12 of the 15 pieces of furniture we own.

And after months of inhaling paint fumes, I have to say, I’m happy we didn’t wait until our next place to settle in. It’s been fun to discover each others likes and dislikes, use a sander and toolbox, and learn some things along the way.

And now we are in the process finding a new place for when we move to Augusta.  It’s crazy and exciting to think we get to do all of this again soon!

Before I became Mrs. Atwell, I had dreams of what our place would look like… you know something like Pottery Barn with a mix of these images all bundled up into our 752 square foot apartment.

Of course this wouldn’t happen immediately after we said “I do”.  It would take at least one month. {hahaha to my engaged self I laugh!}.

But instead of ruining our budget and goals by getting a Pottery Barn credit card, I tried to identify what it was about these images I was drawn to.

What I discovered: I love a “lived in” style, feelings of comfort, a place to welcome friends and family.  So with these things in mind, I’ve tried make our place home, even though it’s hard because we know we won’t be here very long.

I’ll never forget after one of our trips to Georgia, I got in the shower and thought to myself, I’m so glad to be home.

And right after I thought it, a big smile came to my face because I realized we were doing it: making our place home.
