housekeeping update

Sorry if you thought this post was going to be about housekeeping.  This is all about blog housekeeping! Or maybe it should be blogkeeping? Annnnyways, here are some new things at Atwell Adventures!

1.) Atwell Adventures is now its own domain… yeah! So proud to call www.atwelladventures.com our own!  Next up, a self-hosted site!

2.) I spent about two hours last night updating the tags on all my blog posts. I’m probably the only one that will benefit from this, but YAY for organization {and for an obsessive nature that made me want to get it done in one sitting}!

3.) Until this week, the updates for my 101 in 1001 list were happening on the original post which was kind of hard to find if you didn’t have it bookmarked. So I decided it was time for it to have its own page! To see how the updates are coming along, visit my 101 in 1001 page {or find it on the menu bar up top}!

4.) You’ll notice that the last two weeks I’ve participated in high five for friday (here and here). It’s been a fun addition and a nice way for me to wrap up everything going on!

Whew… that was alot of exclamation points 🙂

Hope you have a happy Thursday!

Atwell Adventures

e.a.s. day

Today’s a big day in the Atwell house! It’s Gary’s End of Active Service {EAS} day!

This past month G has been on terminal leave but today marks his last official day in the United States Marine Corps.

EAS Day 1 | Atwell Adventures

Never would I have thought that I would be married to someone in the military.  But the Lord knew exactly what I needed, and that was G – military status and all 🙂

I still remember on our very first date in May 2012, when G casually {and I mean casually} mentioned that he was going to deploy sometime that fall.  Since he had JUST returned from Afghanistan, I thought for sure he was joking, and in fact, I probably asked him if he was joking a million times.  Although he didn’t have to deploy after all, from that moment on I took our relationship even more seriously.

It wasn’t going to be easy. It was scary. But it was so, so worth it.

I’m thankful to have walked alongside him during his last 20 months in the Marines {7 months as his girlfriend, 7 months as his fiance and 6 months as his wife}.  And as much as I’m happy to see him a “civilian”, I have been and always will be proud of the time that he gave to serve our country.

Health & Fitness

less couching, more running

While I’ve completed several 5K’s over the last five years, I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever done them well or with proper training.

With the new year and a new city, I decided it was a good time to start with the basics and build from there.

It also helps that a few of my 101 in 1001 goals involve running.  And have I mentioned that my husband has run a marathon*? Well that helps too, sort of. 🙂

Today marks my fourth day of training using a free app I downloaded called C25K.  If you’re not familiar with C25K {Couch to 5K}, it’s a training program that takes you from the couch {where I’m currently sitting} to running a 5K {what I hope to be doing soon}.  The app coaches when to walk and when to run and each week increases your duration/distance.

My goal for this training is to complete all the training {three times a week for 8 weeks} and to be able to run a 5K in/under 30 minutes.  Ahhhh, that scares me even typing that.  {stop laughing all you better than me, runners 😉 }

Any tips on training?

*That’s 26.2 miles, people. I married a stud.
