31 days – fall 2013 – home life

A wise man once said, “With great power comes great responsibility”.

Actually that was Peter Parker {aka SPIDERMAN} who said that, sooooo… let’s just start this over.

Being a new wife comes with lots of responsibility.  Establishing a comfortable and easy home life for my husband is one of my top priorities right now.

home life | Atwell AdventuresThese past few months I’ve had the opportunity to be a stay at home wife, so I’ve had lots of time to figure out easier ways to do things if/when I go back to work after our move this December.

And I can’t wait to share some of those with you these next few days!

Last week when we celebrated our three month anniversary, we were also celebrating something else.

When we got married, we knew that it would be 6-12 months before G finished his time in the United States Marine Corps. So throughout our engagement and these last three months, we’ve been praying for the Lord’s direction and guidance for our next steps. Being able to sharing this time and process with G has been a sweet adventure of learning and growing for both of us, and I’m so thankful I had the chance to support him not just as his girlfriend or his fiance, but as his wife.

Last Monday, God began to show us an answer for those prayers.

After two interviews, G was offered his first post-military job!

So while we celebrated three months, we were also celebrating a job offer {pretty fun timing, right?}.

Two days later, G accepted.

we're moving to Augusta | AtwellAdventures 3I’m a little sad to move from the place that we’ve spent our first days together. It’s crazy to think that in less than two months will be in a new city, a new home, and reestablishing ourselves again.

But I’m also excited {and a good overwhelmed} about the new things that lie ahead.

So where will our new home be? Well to give you a hint, I forced politely asked G to pose for a picture with the local newspaper from our new city.

31 days – fall 2013 – settling into a home on a budget

Picture newlywed me: lover of home decor blogs and within a 15 minute drive of several awesome antique shops, Home Goods and World Market.

Now picture that same thing and stamp the word BUDGET on my forehead {#FirstWorldProblem}.

I won’t say that settling into our new home on a budget has been the easiest thing for me – but I know it has taught me alot.

I remind myself over and over again, decorating a home won’t happen – and shouldn’t happen – overnight.  Our budget has reinforced that idea and made me think about my purchases more and really consider the things I’m investing in.

Do we NEED this?

Do I LOVE this?

Is this something I’ll want in my home forever?

These last few months I’ve also been able to stretch my creativity by using what we have and making those things new for us {more on that tomorrow}.

I know that one day when I look back on the memories of our first home together, my thoughts won’t be overrun with “what was I thinking about spending money on that” but instead, memories we made together, using the things we had, and all that we learned during our first few months first of our marriage.

What are some memories of your first home?
