High Five for Friday

high five for friday

Good morning from Martinez, Georgia!

It’s gloomy and supposed to rain today – but that’s not raining on my Friday parade… here’s this week’s high fives.

1. I finally used my KitchenAid Mixer – and so far its been super easy! High five for facing my fear of small kitchen appliances!

2. It happened at the end of January but since I wrote about becoming debt free this week, I feel like I’m reliving all the excitement over again.  Yay, high five for being DEBT FREE!

3. This week I got a little bit more organized – and gained alot more space. High five for an organized DVD storage!

4. Last night, we finished our 2013 taxes. {#GrownUps} High five for getting them done early, our new “married” status, and getting a tax return!

5. Today I get to meet up with of my sweet friends from college. High five for being in a city that let’s me reconnect with old friends!

Hope you have a great last weekend in March! Ahhhhh, is it REALLY almost April?!

Around the House

Want to know a secret about me? I hate wasting space.

Actually, I take that back.  I hate wasting space on things that aren’t pretty and/or functional.

So when I saw this idea about how to condense a mountain of dvd’s, I knew some all Bluerays, CDs, and DVD’s in our house were about to get a new home.  Thanks for agreeing to let me do this, G.

I found a decorative shoebox at Christmas Tree Shop for $2.50 {fun fact, Christmas Tree Shop is actually a pretty great store and interestingly enough, does not sell Christmas Trees} and picked up 2 packs of 50 cd/dvd sleeves at Staples for $5 each.

After putting each disc in its sleeve {making sure the dvd was facing out so you could see the label}, I then alphabetized them, and made some dividers to make it quicker to find.  I took a few minutes to create a little catalog to tape inside the box too, which makes picking a movie easier than thumbing through the discs.

Now our Blueray/CD/DVD collection sits secretly on a shelf on our console.

Well, I guess maybe not secretly since I’m writing about it here.

Do you have a mountain of DVD’s in your house too?

in the neighborhood

Although we only lived in our North Carolina apartment for five months, I always thought it was a little strange – and sad – that we didn’t get to know our neighbors.  When we moved to our new home in December, we wanted to make sure that didn’t happen again.

So last Tuesday, we invited our little section of the neighborhood {about seven houses} over for dinner!  You’ve got to start somewhere right?

We really didn’t know how it would be received.  Would anyone come? Would everyone come? Would we be the weird neighbors from here on out? {don’t answer that last one 🙂 }

On Thursday before the dinner, we had four people from two houses saying they would be joining us. Hooray!

It was minimal effort on our part: adding a few chairs and table to our dining area, and preparing a simple menu {barbecue chicken, cole slaw, chips, baked/fried pickles, and brownies and ice cream for dessert}.

I’m thankful that we’ve been blessed with a home we can open up and get to know a few of the people that live near us!

ps – Oh and I can’t forget a picture of the host himself reading before the neighbs came over. {please note: the book is upside down}
