With Our Family

our first overnight guest

Yay for a visit with family that didn’t require US being in the car {another bonus to being back in Georgia}!

On Saturday we welcomed our first overnight guest into our home – my baby sister, Ruthie!

Ruthie made her debut here on Saturday and stayed until this morning – after we visited Starbucks, of course.

It was a low-key weekend {except for almost getting in a fight with a stranger at The Apple Store 🙂 } and fun sharing our new little world with her.  Saturday night we enjoyed dinner at Farmhaus Burgers in downtown Augusta, which didn’t disappoint in taste or atmosphere.  Yesterday we spent the morning at church, out to lunch, and here at the house baking cookies and watching the Golden Globes. We are a party for sure 🙂

Thanks for being our first visitor, Ruch! ps – we’ll try to have an actual bed ready for your next visit 😉

How did you spend your weekend?

our first Christmas

Before we jump in to the new year, let’s talk about last week – my first Christmas as an Atwell!

Christmas 2013-2

Last year I got to celebrate Christmas with G just a few short days after we were engaged. This year, I got to wake up beside him on Christmas morning!  That alone made Christmas morning better!

And if that wasn’t enough – this is the first year that I haven’t worked since college, so it was nice to have the whole week and not feel rushed in our time with family and friends.  Bonus: G had the week off too!

We spent the first 4 days with G’s family and celebrated an early Christmas over the weekend.

Christmas 2013-1
We also threw in a quick dinner with some of our good friends that live in the area. {side note: this also reminded me that our ten {TEN!!!} year high school reunion should be this upcoming summer! I need to find out if anyone is working on reunion plans!}

On Christmas Eve we drove to visit my side of the family where we spent the remainder of the week.  And yes, Leeward the Elf came along for all the adventures!

Christmas 2013-4

Christmas 2013-7

Christmas 2013-6

I love the contrast of our two families. G has two brothers and the only kids that are around are his toddler cousins.  I have two brothers and four sisters, and also have nine nieces and nephews.  It’s apparent in the pictures above which is the calm Christmas and which is the not so calm! 🙂

Although our two families are different, it’s a nice balance and there are always alot of laughs.  I’m so thankful we got to see ALL of our family this Christmas.

Now onto reflecting, organization, and planning for a new year!

almost friday

Even though I no longer work a full-time job, I still get happy when Friday rolls around. It’s probably because it means more time with G {or maybe because of our Friday pizza dinners – I’ll never tell}.

I keep thinking today is a Friday.

While everything isn’t roses in the military-life, one thing I do like is something they call 96. Basically, it means they have 96 hours (4 days) of freeeeeeeeeedooooooom. They don’t give these often, usually just around holidays. When we were dating I always looked forward to a long weekend, and now here I am on the other side of it, looking forward to it just as much. So with Labor Day on Monday, G starts his 96 today {the reason I keep thinking it’s Friday}.

So with our extra time, we are heading to Georgia! This will be our first trip since we’ve moved so we G is looking forward to driving without a Uhaul in tow.

And did I mention we get to see this little family? {Well that is, everyone except for the Cali couple… boo to the states that separate us – but not for too much longer!}  Eeeeeeeps, I’m so excited!

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend whether you’re spending it with family and friends, catching up on sleep, working on projects, or packing away your white linen pants {I’m always a little sad about this one}.

Fall is officially on its way!
