31 days – fall 2014 – raise the blinds

I’m a big fan of natural light, so when we moved into our first apartment and I saw that we had tiny blinds, I knew they had to go.

I love when rooms that are flooded with sunshine, so in place of the blinds we used our go to white curtains. Once it would get dark we’d close them, and come morning one of my favorite things to do would be opening them again.

We’ve kept our blinds up in this house, but because they’re wider, they let in more light. Still, one of my favorite parts of the days is opening our blinds to start a new day. So very thankful for the sunshine that fills our mornings and our living room.

31 days – fall 2014 – neutral pieces

If you looked at our wedding registry you’d probably think I was a boring person {and you might be right}.

There was certainly a lack of color from our registry items – except for our Blue Willow China – and that was for reason.

As we’re starting out, I think it’s important to buy good neutral pieces and build from there. I can always add in color to our table with a colored napkin, and the neutral base pieces allow me the freedom to do that.

The same goes for renting too. Try not to overdo it with colors and themes and stick to neutrals if possible and build from there.

31 days – fall 2014 – smart furnishings

Will this furniture work if we move one day?

Instead of being frozen by the indecision caused by this question, we’ve tried to buy things that would work in different rooms or settings.  If we’ve purchased something with just this house in mind, more than likely we haven’t spent much money on it.

In my opinion, renting is not the time to furnish your dream home.  Save your money for when you are more settled.
