31 days – fall 2013 – pizza friday

If you follow me on pinterest, you’ve probably seen more than a few pizza pins pop up from me lately. Apologies.

But today I’ll try to explain why I’m clogging your pinterest feed {and probably my arteries} with cheesy pies.

The first time we visited our apartment back in April, we ordered a pizza and ate on the floor of our empty apartment.

The first dinner in our apartment as newlyweds? Pizza.

So when it came to a tradition, I knew that pizza probably should be involved, but I wanted to try to make it at home so we could save a little and continue our weeknight dinners at home.  To my surprise, G had never had homemade pizza before!

So for the past 15 weeks or so, we’ve been making pizzas our Friday night dinner! What I love about this tradition {other than the fact that I tell myself its okay to have pizza once a week} is that there are so many different ways to make pizza, so we haven’t once been tired of it.  In fact, I actually look forward to it since its a very easy meal to prepare and clean up, and bonus: G seems to love it too!

Have you ever made homemade pizza?

31 days – fall 2013 – making our place “home”, pt. 2

When we got married in July we knew the chances of us staying in this apartment past January were slim.  But even though we would only be here for five or six months, I wanted to make this place feel like ours. I wanted to try and use what we had {even if that meant alot of paint} before we invested in other things. I wanted this apartment to be somewhere that we loved, not just lived.

Since I’ve moved in, all our boxes have been unpacked, we’ve G has put nails in the walls, hung and rehung pictures {some are still correct orientation pictures in them, please excuse me while I twitch}, and painted 12 of the 15 pieces of furniture we own.

And after months of inhaling paint fumes, I have to say, I’m happy we didn’t wait until our next place to settle in. It’s been fun to discover each others likes and dislikes, use a sander and toolbox, and learn some things along the way.

And now we are in the process finding a new place for when we move to Augusta.  It’s crazy and exciting to think we get to do all of this again soon!

Before I became Mrs. Atwell, I had dreams of what our place would look like… you know something like Pottery Barn with a mix of these images all bundled up into our 752 square foot apartment.

Of course this wouldn’t happen immediately after we said “I do”.  It would take at least one month. {hahaha to my engaged self I laugh!}.

But instead of ruining our budget and goals by getting a Pottery Barn credit card, I tried to identify what it was about these images I was drawn to.

What I discovered: I love a “lived in” style, feelings of comfort, a place to welcome friends and family.  So with these things in mind, I’ve tried make our place home, even though it’s hard because we know we won’t be here very long.

I’ll never forget after one of our trips to Georgia, I got in the shower and thought to myself, I’m so glad to be home.

And right after I thought it, a big smile came to my face because I realized we were doing it: making our place home.
